The KitCheck Mobile Pharmacy lets you restock both automated and non-automated anesthesia workstations at the point of care, whether that’s the operating room, labor and delivery, an endoscopy suite, a cath lab, or any other anesthetizing location. It carries an independent power supply and ample storage for restock inventory, and medications stay secured inside optional locking drawers when not in use. The cart moves easily through elevators, hallways, and operating rooms, so pharmacy staff bring the restock to the point of care instead of running medications back and forth to the central pharmacy.

The problem with restocking the OR by hand

Operating rooms use medications fast, and keeping anesthesia workstations stocked is one of the least visible jobs in the pharmacy. Technicians walk medications out to each room, count what is left by hand, note what is missing, and walk back to pull replacements. Every trip takes time, and every manual count leaves room for an expired vial to sit in a drawer or a PAR level to drift out of sync. A mobile medication cart changes the pattern: the restock travels with the technician, and the counting happens at the point of use.

A mobile medication cart built for the OR

A mobile medication cart only helps if it fits the way an OR actually runs. The KitCheck Mobile Pharmacy is built for it:

• Independent power supply so the cart does not depend on finding a free outlet mid-restock
• Ample onboard storage that holds a full restock load, so one trip covers more rooms
• Optional locking drawers that keep controlled and high-risk medications secure between uses
• Easy maneuvering through elevators, hallways, and tight OR doorways

Secure storage matters beyond convenience. High-alert and controlled medications call for careful handling, a point patient-safety groups like the Institute for Safe Medication Practices have stressed for years, and lockable drawers make that handling part of the cart itself rather than a separate step.

Faster crash cart and workstation turnaround

Speed counts most when a room has to be reset quickly. After a long case or a code, the team needs the workstation or crash cart back to full readiness before the next patient. Manual restocking slows that down and invites mistakes under pressure. Bringing a stocked medication cart directly to the point of use shortens the loop between the pharmacy and the room, so turnaround stays fast and predictable even during a busy surgical schedule.

RFID medication management behind the cart

The Mobile Pharmacy runs on Bluesight’s RFID medication management system, and that is where the time savings come from. Instead of counting items one by one, staff scan an entire tray or drawer in a single pass. Each scan reads every tagged item at once and updates the record automatically:

• What is on hand, by location
• What is expiring soon, before it becomes waste
• What needs to be replaced to hit PAR

Teams that want the same scanning speed away from the cart can pair it with KitCheck Anywhere, which brings mobile RFID scanning to restock work across the facility.

Medication inventory management that reduces waste

Expired drugs and overstock quietly drain a pharmacy budget, and manual tracking makes both harder to catch. Accurate, real-time counts give the pharmacy a cleaner picture of what it actually holds, which helps teams:

• Stock the right quantities at each location instead of over-ordering “just in case”
• Catch expiring medications early enough to use or return them
• Hold steady PAR levels across kits, trays, and carts
• Spend less technician time on manual counts and reconciliation

That day-to-day accuracy does more than tidy the shelves. Clean inventory data is the foundation for smarter buying, which is where broader drug purchasing and cost decisions start to pay off across a health system.

Where the Mobile Pharmacy fits

The Mobile Pharmacy is one piece of a connected medication management approach. The same RFID foundation that tracks a tray on the cart can support diversion monitoring, purchasing optimization, and inventory visibility across sites. For pharmacies standardizing how they handle medications from the loading dock to the operating room, the cart is a practical starting point that plugs into the full Bluesight platform.
